Welcome!
Optoelectronics accompanied by classical electronics and information technologies constitute the most prominent technological progress carriers nowadays. Modern photonics unites the most basic physics with nanotechnology, the combination leading to innovative research studies with direct impact on our everyday lives. Within that field, semiconductor coherent light sources – such as lasers and various kinds of radiation detectors – can be pinpointed as one of the most dynamically growing technologies, with a huge potential for practical applications, too.
Polish science has had marked input in the area of optoelectronics, though in most cases it did not translate well into applications or market presence. The Centre of Nanophotonics was established to change that situation. It unites institutions acting as national leaders in nanotechnology, semiconductor physics and electronics and aims to give Polish enterprises a competitive edge. Thanks to carefully directed research, nanophotonics may become a Polish specialty and ensure the country a strong foothold on the European hi-tech research and industry market.
